🤖 What Is an AI Teacher?

An “AI teacher” is not a robot standing at the front of your classroom! It’s a computer program that can help you learn. It uses artificial intelligence—which means the computer can figure things out, answer your questions, and give you practice problems that are just right for you.

What Can an AI Teacher Do?

  • Answer Your Questions — You can type a question (like “What does photosynthesis mean?”) and the AI explains it in a way you can understand.
  • Give You Practice — If you’re learning times tables or spelling, the AI can give you problems at your level—not too easy, not too hard.
  • Help With Reading — Some AI programs can read stories with you and help you with tricky words.
  • Help Your Teacher — AI can do things like mark quizzes or take attendance, so your real teacher has more time to help you.
  • Translate Languages — If a student speaks a different language at home, AI can help explain things in their language too.
Put simply: An AI teacher is a smart computer helper that works alongside your real teacher—it doesn’t replace them!

In this debate, the big question is: Should schools use these AI helpers, or are they more trouble than they’re worth?

⚖️ Arguments: For & Against

The FOR side says yes, schools should use AI teachers. The AGAINST side says no, schools should not.

FOR: Schools Should Use AI Teachers

1. Every Student Gets Their Own Helper

Imagine having a tutor who knows exactly what you need help with. AI teachers can give each student different work based on what they already know. A big study in 2025 found that students who used AI tutors did much better on tests than students who only learned in regular class—their scores improved by a large amount.

2. Teachers Get More Time for YOU

Teachers spend a lot of time on things like marking papers and making lesson plans. Research shows that teachers who use AI tools save about 6 weeks of time every year! That means your teacher can spend more time actually talking to you, helping you with problems, and making lessons fun.

3. Shy Students Feel More Comfortable

Some kids feel embarrassed to raise their hand in class or ask for help. Teachers have noticed that students who are quiet in class are actually more willing to ask questions when talking to an AI tutor, because they don’t worry about other kids hearing them make mistakes.

4. It Helps Kids Who Speak Different Languages

AI can instantly translate lessons into many different languages. If a student just moved from another country and is still learning English, AI tools can explain things in their home language while they catch up. This means no child gets left behind just because of the language they speak.

5. It Makes Learning More Fun

AI programs can turn lessons into games, puzzles, and interactive stories. Instead of just reading a textbook, you might solve a mystery to learn about history, or go on a virtual adventure to learn about animals. When learning feels like a game, students pay more attention and remember more.

AGAINST: Schools Should NOT Use AI Teachers

1. Kids Might Stop Thinking for Themselves

The biggest worry is that if a computer always gives you the answer, you never learn how to figure things out on your own. Struggling with a hard problem is actually how your brain gets stronger! Experts say that when students use AI to do their work, “they’re not thinking, they’re not struggling, and they’re not learning.”

2. Teachers Aren’t Ready Yet

Here’s a surprising fact: 85% of teachers say they feel unprepared to use AI in their classrooms, and most haven’t been given any training. If the adults in charge don’t understand how the technology works, how can they make sure it’s helping—not hurting—their students?

3. AI Gets Things Wrong

AI doesn’t actually know things the way your teacher does. It guesses based on patterns, and sometimes it guesses wrong. It can give you incorrect facts or bad explanations. Young students may not be able to tell when the AI has made a mistake, so they could end up learning the wrong thing.

4. Screen Time Is Already Too High

Kids already spend a lot of time looking at screens. Adding an AI teacher means even more screen time during the school day. Doctors say too much screen time can hurt children’s eyes, make it harder to sleep, and reduce the time kids spend playing, moving, and talking face-to-face with friends.

5. Not All Schools Can Afford It

AI technology costs money—for computers, tablets, internet, and the software itself. Schools in poorer areas may not be able to buy these tools, which means the gap between rich schools and poor schools could get even bigger. Every child deserves a fair chance to learn, no matter where they live.

🎤 Tips for Your 5-Minute Speech

How Long Is 5 Minutes?

When you speak at a normal speed, 5 minutes is about 600–750 words. That’s roughly two pages if you write it out. Practice with a timer so you know you’ll finish on time!

How to Set Up Your Speech

Opening (about 45 seconds): Start with something that grabs attention! You could ask a question (“What if a computer could help you with your homework every single day?”), share a fun fact, or tell a short story. Then tell the audience whether you are FOR or AGAINST AI teachers.

Middle (about 3 minutes): Give 3 main reasons for your side. For each reason, say what it is, give a fact or example to prove it, and explain why it matters. Try to mention one thing the other side says and explain why you disagree.

Ending (about 1 minute): Remind the audience of your 3 reasons in one quick sentence each. Finish with a strong last line—something the audience will remember! For example: “AI might be smart, but it will never care about you the way your teacher does.”

Top tip for young speakers: Look up at your audience, speak slowly and clearly, and remember—it’s okay to be nervous! Even grown-ups get butterflies.
