Washington, DC – August 27, 2013 – On Monday, August 26, 2013, eight of the 2013 NAUDL urban debate champions and NAUDL Executive Director Linda Listrom met with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.
The students who attended are Tyler Anderson (New York City Urban Debate League), Destiny Crockett and Cameron Smith (St. Louis Urban Debate League), Brandon Dixon (Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate League), Pauline Esman and John Vitzileos (Chicago Debate League), and Sophie Bauerschmidt Sweeney and Dikshant Malla (Baltimore Urban Debate League).
The President spoke with the students about their experiences as debaters and asked them questions about policy debate and the 2013 topic.
The meeting with the President is part of a three-day trip to Washington, DC where the debate champions will meet with members of the Cabinet, policy leaders and congressional staff representatives, and visit the Supreme Court of the United States.
